Renting a Motorhome

Many Americans have a secret dream of taking a few months to travel and explore the country by motorhome. The idea of being a free spirit and traveling to places that you have never seen is an attractive proposition for people of all backgrounds. Unfortunately, not many people get the chance to realize their dream because they either do not have the time and freedom to travel or they can not afford to buy a motorhome.

Finding the time to travel is a problem that we do not have time to address in the limited space devoted to this article. Instead, we will focus on the benefits of renting a motorhome for your next extended vacation.

A brand new motorhome, equipped with all the bells and whistles can easily set you back $100,000 or even more. Most people do not have that kind of money to spend. You might find a used motorhome for about the same price as a nice new car, but you never know how dependable an older motor home will be. If you want to travel in style and still not completely deplete your bank account, you should consider renting a motorhome.

For a few thousand dollars, you can enjoy a week or two in a luxurious motorhome. You will save practically that much by not having to stay in expensive hotel rooms. You can also find out if you are really in to the whole motorhome vacation experience.

Some people just love the convenience of traveling with all the conveniences of home. Others find out that the experience was nice, but they would not want to do it again. If you have never taken a trip in a motorhome, it is a good idea to try it out with a rented motorhome before making the commitment to spend a small fortune on your own motor home.

Driving a motorhome is not really too hard to do. With power steering and a little getting used to the size, you simply aim the vehicle in the direction you want to go and step on the gas. Backing up and parking skills take a little longer to master.

Some people take motorhomes to remote areas where they can fish and hunt. The motorhome is basically a portable, self-contained home that can go anywhere a vehicle can drive. You can stock it with food, sleep in it, watch TV, shower and do anything you might do in a regular house or apartment.

The main disadvantage of any motorhome is that it does not get good gas mileage. Most motorhomes get mileage equivalent to that of a big truck. You might be lucky if you can average 10 miles per gallon. Considering that gas is around $4.00 per gallon, a cross country trip can cost close to a thousand dollars in fuel.

If you can afford to rent a motorhome and afford to put gas in it, you can have a once in a lifetime vacation. If you get hooked on the experience and have enough resources, you might consider buying a motorhome and becoming a member of the group that would not travel any other way.
